Create Clear, Fair, and Timely Activities
As with any learning activity, teachers should provide clear details to allow students to plainly understand the demands of the activity and the desired outcomes. Teachers should also consider the fairness of their planned learning activities. For instance, if students are new to subject matter, care should be taken to allow them to gain competency at a gradual pace rather than immersing student too deeply, too quickly.
Research has shown that the more relevant a learning activity is to the world of the student, the better the students will be able to relate to and synthesize the information provided them. Teachers should strive to create learning activities that student can relate to in a meaningful way. Using up-date-to examples is one way to do this rather than using references to out of date examples.
Preparing a Quality Learning Environment
Teachers should spend time considering the learning environment where learning activities are delivered. If a learning activity is a kinesthetic activity, is there enough room in the learning space for students to spread out and have adequate room to complete the activity? Teachers need to consider if the learning space has other adequate resources like electricity or audio-visual equipment. Teachers are best advised to check out the learning space in advance to ensure it has all the necessary requirements for their planned learning activity.
Teachers should expend the necessary time to develop quality learning activities. As teachers prepare students for the OGT, they should consider their students learning styles, match their learning activities to the Ohio Graduation Test criteria, along with designing quality learning activities in an adequate learning space.
